Join Us in Celebrating International Infection Prevention Week!
International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW)
- Dates: October 19-25, 2025
- Theme: "Stand UPPP – Unite, Protect, Prevent, Prevail"
International Infection Prevention Week, observed every 3rd week of October, highlights the critical role infection prevention plays in promoting the health of individuals. The purpose is to raise global awareness of infection prevention and control and emphasize the role everyone plays in stopping the spread of infections.
Various organizations and communities around the world actively participate in promoting and supporting World Health days like IIPW each year.
The Global Challenge of Healthcare-Associated Infections (HAIs)
Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are a great concern, affecting millions globally each year, with 23,000 deaths reported annually.
Poor infection control practices, such as poor hand hygiene, limited/lack of IPC commodities, inadequate cleaning, disinfection & sterilization, overcapacity, and inadequate knowledge/poor attitudes of health care workers, all contribute to these infections, impacting both patients and health workers.

of infection can be prevented with proper IPC practices, which are simple and cost-effective, like hand hygiene, and proper cleaning and disinfection/sterilization of equipment used on patients by healthcare workers.
In low and middle-income countries, 15 out of 100 patients develop HAIs during their hospital stay, resulting in 10% of deaths.
Strengthening IPC practices in healthcare facilities is essential to reducing the risk of HAIs and ensuring safe patient care.
